Summer 2026 Internship, National Afro American Museum and Cultural Center

Position: Summer 2026 Internship – Historic Sites

Location: National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce, Ohio

Type: Paid Internship, $15/hour

Schedule: Part-time, paid thirteen-week position starting on Monday, May 11- Friday, August 7, 2026.

Notes on Schedule: Must be available weekdays, between 9am and 3pm, for a minimum of 8 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week.

Reports to: Interpretive Supervisor

About Ohio History Connection:

The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

Summary:

This position will work with the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center's Interpretive Supervisor to digitize lesson plans and activities created using materials from the Museum's Archives and Collections.

Essential Functions:

· Organizing and preparing source material for each lesson

· Providing proper citations to accompany primary source documents

· Creating a cohesive and consistent format for each lesson

Required Education, Skills, Experience:

· Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year)

· Major in History or Education

· Experience with MS Word, Excel, possibly website building

· Experience working with scanners and printers

Required Competencies:

· Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.

· Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings

· Punctuality and promptness are a must.

Other Requirements:

· Must complete a background check and internship onboarding paperwork

· Must create an account and log internships hours via Track It Forward

· Must present at the summer internship summit

· Must attend professional development opportunities and meetings when requested

Education and Experience Outcomes:

· Student intern will gain experience working "behind the scenes" at a Museum

· Student intern will understand how to interpret historical material in myriad ways to reach a wide variety of audiences

· Student intern will gain a unique perspectives and learn interesting aspects about African American history.
