Excel Center High School Math Teacher
Mission Contribution: Support the mission of the Excel Center by delivering high-quality mathematics instruction that prepares adult learners and high school students for academic success, career readiness, and life-long problem-solving skills.
Summary: The High School Math Teacher will provide instruction in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry I, Geometry II, and Basic Math Remediation. This role requires designing engaging lessons aligned with state standards, assessing student progress, and utilizing differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs. Teachers will work collaboratively with staff to foster a supportive learning environment and help students achieve their educational goals.
Essential Functions:
- Plan and deliver math lessons aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and Excel Center guidelines.
- Teach Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry I, Geometry II, and provide basic math remediation as needed.
- Utilize multiple teaching strategies, including hands-on activities, problem-based learning, and technology integration.
- Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and provide actionable feedback to improve learning outcomes.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying skill levels and learning styles.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administrative staff to address student needs and support academic success.
- Prepare students for state-mandated tests and other academic benchmarks.
- Participate in professional development activities and contribute to school-wide improvement initiatives.
- Foster a positive, engaging classroom culture that promotes critical thinking and respect.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of the Excel Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a high school or adult education setting.
- Familiarity with technology-enhanced instruction and project-based learning.
- Experience in providing targeted remediation for students who require additional support.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:
- Hold a valid Virginia teaching license in Mathematics or a related field (or eligible to receive).
Special Requirements:
- Strong understanding of the Virginia Standards of Learning for Mathematics, including Algebra and Geometry.
- Effective communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and learning needs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move within a classroom setting for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Capacity to use standard office and classroom equipment effectively.
