Senior Camp Counselor
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening
community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the
Camp Director, the Senior Counselor will supervise and care for the safety and well-being of each camper assigned
to them. Senior Counselors will lead and instruct campers in all recreational camp activities as necessary and
consistent with Camp goals and policies with a complete knowledge of the Y mission, programs and operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the safety and welfare of each camper assigned to his/her group.
2. Shall maintain the group unit by staying with the group at all times and involving each camper
in all group activities.
3. Shall eat lunch with campers.
4. Shall supervise campers in changing rooms (following child abuse prevention guidelines).
5. Responsible for the safekeeping of camper’s personal belongings and valuables.
6. Follows abuse risk management policies and protocols including completion of required training
on abuse prevention, adhering to policies related to boundaries with consumers, following
supervision and monitoring guidelines for consumers, and reporting of inappropriate behaviors
and policy violations including mandated abuse reporting requirements
7. Assist in the teaching of program skills.
8. Actively participate in all Camp special events and theme days.
9. Have rainy day activities planned in advance.
10. Maintain the validity of the program schedule by arriving at program areas in a timely manner.
11. Responsible for keeping and reporting accurate and up-to-date attendance.
11. Abide by and enforce all Camp policies and rules.
12. Attend, and actively participate in, all staff meetings.
13. Develop and implement group activities during group free time and open periods.
