Pay Range: $22 - $28 per hour, based on relevant experience.
Fairfax County Department of Family Services – Employment Services is seeking reliable and organized individuals with a dynamic professional attitude to provide administrative and program support to the Summer Educating Youth through Employment (EYE) program. The Summer EYE program serves young people ages 16–24 by providing job readiness, leadership, and professional development training and places them into paid work experiences. EYE program counselors will be required to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, employers, and community service providers, and to deliver ongoing support as needed. Duties include data entry, compiling weekly reports, and maintaining a flexible and accommodating environment to support all stakeholders. EYE counselors will work as a team to participate in, coordinate, facilitate, and develop training curricula, events, presentations, and job fairs.

Successful EYE program counselors will also have effective communication skills to serve individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and provide extensive support to young adults who face challenges obtaining employment. EYE youth come from diverse backgrounds and may have physical or hidden disabilities, experienced homelessness, been involved in the justice system, or otherwise confront diverse social and economic challenges. Ideal candidates will provide a person-centered, equity-focused, asset-based approach to coaching and will build trusting relationships with youth. Additionally, possessing qualities such as an energetic, flexible, and professional demeanor, along with a willingness to assume various roles and tasks based on program needs, is essential for success in this role.
EYE counselors will be required to provide services throughout Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties. County vehicles are available for use.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience delivering services and providing resources to young adults between the ages of 16 to 24.
- Completion of a minimum of 60 undergraduate college credits (junior status).
- Majors of Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, and Public Administration are encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of social, economic, health, and cultural factors that can serve as barriers to employment.
- Knowledge of labor market conditions and job development techniques.
- Knowledge of word processing and data management programs (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and survey software).
- Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements.
- Sufficiently mobile to work with clients and employers.
