Seasonal Environmental Analyst

 

The VT Agriculture & Environmental Laboratory (VAEL) in Randolph, VT is seeking to fill two Seasonal Analyst positions to help handle the increased workload from late spring through the end of September. 

The first position is in the inorganics section and will consist of preparing water samples to be tested for nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen and directly testing water samples for other parameters such as chloride, alkalinity, total dissolved solids and chlorophyll.

The second position will be split evenly between two sections, the organics lab and the sample receiving area. In the organics lab, work will focus on automated and manual extraction of water samples and cleaning glass ware. In the sample receiving area work will involve logging in samples and processing their associated documentation.

Both positions will be full-time (40 hrs./week), M-F between the months of May and September. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education           One year of college-level courses including engineering, chemistry, biological-life or physical science, math and/or natural resources.

OR

Experience          At least six months of work experience relevant to specific job duties.

Specific Skills/Specialized Knowledge     Good manual dexterity, attention to detail, computer skills, and knowledge of algebra.

 

Preference given to those candidates with:

At least one year of course work in general chemistry

Computer literacy includes Excel, Word, LIMS systems

Total Nitrogen analysis experience using persulfate alkaline digestion

Total Phosphorus analysis experience using acid persulfate digestion

Water analysis through wet chemistry methods

Chlorophyll analysis utilizing fluorometry

Manual and automated sample preparation for organic chemistry analysis
