The Coriell Research Department is proud to offer a part-time, paid internship opportunity for current or recently graduated college students to work alongside our Bioinformatics Team.  

Students will receive individualized direction from a group of expert mentors. The application deadline is April 1, 2026.    This experience will have the goal of enhancing academic credentials and providing interns with the opportunity to develop new areas of interest.

Responsibilities, duties, and projects:

  • Develop a general understanding of basic bioinformatics data types and workflows.
  • Students will learn how bioinformatics data is generated from library prep to sequencing, alignment, and downstream statistical analysis, common file formats, and standard software
  • Learn/develop skills in bioinformatics data analysis using the Linux command line, R, and Python programming
  • Students will develop a working proficiency with R, Python, and Bash scripting for the purpose of performing a bioinformatics analysis
  • Learn/develop a general understanding of modern statistical frameworks used in high-dimensional data analysis
  • Participate in weekly seminars, lab meetings, and other activities to further knowledge of research and development
  • Create a final presentation to share with the team

Desired Majors: 

Bachelor’s Degree of Science in one of the following disciplines:

  • Computer Science, Information Systems & Technology
  • Life Sciences

Requirements:

  • Must be actively enrolled, or recently graduated (May 2025 – Present), from an institute of higher education, in one of the majors listed above, or similar disciplines,
  • Must be a NJ resident or attend a NJ college/university
  • Must be able to remain employed for a 10 week tenure, 15-20 hours per week.
  • Must have reliable transportation to Camden, NJ, where Coriell is located.

Position Classifications:

  • Pay Rate: $20.00
  • Hours per week: 15-20 hours per week 
  • Position Length: 10 weeks
  • Part-time, Seasonal Unpaid Intern, Not Benefit Eligible
