THE POSITION
GreenerU collaborates with institutions to plan, engineer, and construct carbon reduction and energy efficiency solutions. We partner with institutions to help them meet their carbon neutrality goals, all while turning existing facilities into higher-performing buildings, maximizing financial returns, and realizing other benefits.
GreenerU seeks a highly motivated entry-level Decarbonization Engineer who will sit at the intersection of energy analysis and decarbonization project development. This person will have the skills to work with internal and external stakeholders during complex energy-efficiency and decarbonization project development phases. The ideal candidate will be able to support energy modeling and design engineering at various stages of the decarbonization pathway to develop successful energy and carbon reduction projects.
The Decarbonization Engineer should be skilled at understanding the required analysis for a given effort, supporting GreenerU’s overall goal of delivering deep carbon reduction projects. This is a hybrid role with a primary work location at GreenerU’s Waltham office, as well as at customer and partner sites in the New England area.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Conduct field investigations of existing building systems
- Perform ASHRAE Levels I, II, and III audits
- Perform energy and greenhouse gas baseline and benchmarking analyses
- Create calibrated energy models to support measure development
- Develop and implement functional test procedures for HVAC systems
- Develop scopes of work and cost estimates of proposed energy efficiency and decarbonization projects
- Support financial modeling of selected measures
- Analyze client opportunities and assist in developing proposals
- Develop and implement measurement and verification activities, as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND CHARACTERISTICS
- BSME or related degree
- 0–2 years of related experience (internships/co-ops welcome)
- Working understanding of HVAC controls and building automation systems
- PE or CEM certification a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work in the field with guidance and support from senior staff
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of OpenStudio and EnergyPlus (or similar energy modeling software) and AutoCAD is a plus
