Choreographer

Position Overview

MC Events is seeking a choreographer to help develop the movement and visual performance style for a high-energy 1970s cover band featuring a trio of lead vocalists. The group is being positioned as a dance-driven band designed to get audiences on their feet, with choreography playing a central role in shaping the visual identity and stage presence of the live show.

The choreographer will collaborate with the project’s creative lead to develop movement concepts, stage blocking, and choreography that supports live vocal performance while capturing the upbeat spirit of 1970s pop, funk, soul, and disco.

The goal is to have choreography created and taught prior to the band’s headlining festival appearance scheduled for May 23–24.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the creative lead to establish the overall movement style and performance concept for the band
  • Develop choreography and stage movement for a large portion of the band’s setlist
  • Create movement that complements live singing while maintaining strong visual energy
  • Record choreography and movement sequences so performers can learn material remotely
  • Participate in periodic creative check-ins to review progress and refine concepts
  • Attend a small number of in-person rehearsals with the full band to stage and finalize choreography

Project Timeline

  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Development Period: March – May
  • In-Person Rehearsals: April and early-to-mid May
  • Target Performance: Festival headlining set on May 23–24

Work Structure

  • Flexible, project-based collaboration
  • Greater involvement during the early development phase
  • Independent choreography development between check-ins
  • Limited in-person rehearsals as the performance approaches

While the band performs a substantial catalogue, not every song will require full choreography. The focus is on developing a cohesive movement vocabulary and visual identity that reinforces the band’s energetic, dance-forward style.

Compensation

  • Paid contract position
  • Monthly stipend (final amount currently being determined)
  • Full credit and billing as Choreographer for the band’s performances and tour materials
  • If choreography continues to be used in future performances, the choreographer will receive ongoing credit and compensation for use of their intellectual property

Ideal Background

Candidates may come from choreography, dance, theatre, or musical theatre backgrounds. Experience creating movement for live vocalists, bands, or staged performances is especially valuable.

This opportunity is ideal for a choreographer interested in contributing to the creative development of a new live music act while building professional credits in concert staging and live entertainment.
