Description

A position (at the Research Associate level) is available in the Sepsis Research Lab, under the leadership of the Vice Chair & Professor, Pediatrics Research, at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, Northwell Health, Manhasset, NY. 

The laboratory studies the pathobiology of sepsis with attention to organ dysfunction using molecular approaches and animal models. 
We are looking for a productive, highly motivated, and organized Research Associate to work in different areas. The ideal candidate is expected to think creatively and flourish in an integrated and dynamic team. 
• Performs a variety of complex and independent activities involved in planning, organizing and conducting assigned portion(s) of research studies.  Participates in the coordination of sharing information, lending assistance, and solving problems with other team members, as needed.  
• Evaluates and interprets collected data, and prepares presentations, reports and analyses describing progress, trends, and recommendations or conclusions. Able to take initiative and work interdependently, meet deadlines with a sense of urgency, multitask, adjust to shifting priorities, communicate effectively, and work under defined rules and regulations.
• Detail-oriented. Uses good judgment. Possesses perseverance and persistence.

Job Responsibilities Include:

• Designing and conducting experiments under the supervision of senior lab members and the Principal Investigator
• Managing mouse colonies and processing murine tissues. Expertise in mouse handling is required.
• Performing, but not limited to, cell culture, ELISA assays, histology, microscopy, QRT-PCR, western blots, flow cytometry (preferred not required) and other molecular bench work.

• Preparation and processing of patient-derived samples. 
• Managing laboratory resources, ordering reagents and other lab supplies as needed.
• Summarize experimental data timely and participate in lab meetings.
 

Qualifications

·      Masters Degree, required. (OR) Bachelors Degree and four (4) years related experience, required.

·      Minimum three (3) additional years Research experience, required.

  • Maintains current knowledge of research study area including attending scientific/professional meetings and training courses as appropriate.
  • Works effectively as part of a team with good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to take initiative and work interdependently, meet deadlines with a sense of urgency, multitask, adjust to shifting priorities, communicate effectively, and work under defined rules and regulations.
  • Detail-oriented. Uses good judgment. Possesses perseverance and persistence.

 Additional Highly Preferred Skills:

  • Survival surgeries 
  • Performing tissue staining - H&E, Gram Stain, Immunofluorescence 
  • And other Molecular/cellular biology techniques as required
