Early Elementary Teacher

We are seeking a passionate, progressive educator to join our School faculty for the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate is a "guide on the side" who thrives in a student-centered classroom. You should be adept at small-group instruction, knowledgeable in child development, and possess a healthy dose of humor, kindness, and flexibility.

Responsibilities

  • Student-Centered Instruction: Serve as the lead teacher for an early elementary cohort, implementing a curriculum that prioritizes inquiry, creativity, and the Wilson Reading System framework.
  • Holistic Development: Model a culture of innovation that balances academic rigor with character education and emotional intelligence.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with a tight-knit team of educators to design project-based units that make learning "visible" and engaging.
  • Parent Partnership: Establish and maintain transparent, altruistic relationships with families, promoting a true partnership in each child’s educational journey.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and daily school life, including recess, lunch, and community-building traditions.
  • Inclusive Excellence: Authentically engage with our diverse student body, ensuring a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where every student can succeed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field is required.
  • Licensing: A valid Virginia Teaching License is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
  • Pedagogy: Proven ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners and a passion for student-led, project-based learning.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to communicate with empathy to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Classroom Management: Strong skills in creating a positive, calm, and structured classroom environment that fosters independence.
  • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with educational technology for lesson design and documenting student progress.
