Position Overview: 

We are seeking a dynamic & results-oriented Account Management Trainee to join our team at Validus Pharmaceuticals LLC, a leading pharmaceutical company focused on psychiatry & cardiovascular therapies. 

This is part of our Management Training program for a recent, high performing college graduate.

Under the guidance and hands-on training of Director, Access & Reimbursement, the Key Account Manager – Market Access will learn and support the development and execution of Market Access strategies to enable corporate sales growth by ensuring optimal formulary positioning and reimbursement of our branded pharmaceutical products.

We presently market Equetro® - the only carbamazepine product approved by FDA for the treatment of bipolar 1; we recently launched Raldesy™ Oral Solution for the treatment of major depressive disorder and we just launched Lopressor® Oral Solution for the treatment of hypertension, angina & myocardial infarction.  We expect further new launches in 2026 & 2027 that will have significant addressable markets in the CNS & Cardiovascular disease states requiring Market Access support. 

The ideal candidate will be hungry, assertive & organized to pull – through recent Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and other Payer rebate agreements.  Candidate should be trainable and coachable to learn, apply and execute, effectively. This person should have strong analytical skills, stakeholder engagement capabilities and an understanding or ability to rapidly learn healthcare systems & reimbursement pathways.  Some Sales and/or Account Management experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to align sales objectives with overall company goals, ensuring national account efforts are targeted to meet our objectives. 
  • Current PBM Contract Pull – Through:  Work to get as many PBM & Member Plans to accept our products formulary coverage on their formularies (e.g., if they manage their own formularies, but take a rebate from the PBM) to assist the Director, Market Access & Reimbursement in expanding overall national product coverage.
  • Direct Account Management & Stakeholder Engagement:  Assist to help manage national & regional PBMs & several other Payers to add our products to their formularies, expand national coverage and avoid potential formulary exclusion for current & future products.
  • Strategic Account Execution & Support: Develop & implement national sales strategies for PBM/Member Plan formulary pull-through for our products. Promote wins with Field Sales. 
  • Account Growth: Secure, build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key decision makers within smaller, national PBM target accounts, including executives, formulary managers, and procurement specialists. 
  • Analytical Skills & Reporting: Need to be comfortable working with sales, claims and coverage access data to optimize efforts, focus and coverage growth. Report call activity and outcomes to management and the Sales Force.
  • Market Expansion: Identify new business opportunities to secure & expand market access/ formulary coverage, avoiding formulary exclusion and introducing new products & services to existing accounts while prospecting and securing others. 
  • Training and Support: Provide education & training to accounts on product value, features, benefits, & proper usage to ensure optimal customer satisfaction/adherence to guidelines. 
  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with Management, Field Sales, Marketing, LTC, Regulatory Affairs, and supply chain teams to align on product strategies, promotional activities, and inventory management. 
  • Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to proactively adjust sales strategies. 
  • Sales Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, forecast future business, and provide regular updates to management on sales performance, customer feedback & trends. 
  • Location/Travel:  Ideal candidate will be based in Central NJ to work from the home office

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 0-1 year of Sales and/or Key Account Management experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, with ideally some Account Management. 
  • Existing relationships with healthcare providers, admin and/or Payer key accounts. 
  • Proven track record of managing complex accounts and driving significant access growth. 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage decision-makers at all levels. 
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Familiarity with CRM tools, data/data analysis and sales reporting software. 
  • Ability to travel nationally as required. 
  • Experience with products in the psychiatry, neurology & cardiovascular areas is a plus. 
  • Home office based in Central NJ.
