Ravenna High School has approximately 320 students in Grades 9-12. Ravenna is an outstanding community known for its small-town charm and close-knit relationships. The High School Principal serves as the primary instructional and administrative leader of Ravenna High School. The successful candidate will foster a culture of high expectations, promote a growth mindset among staff and students, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment that prepares students to be successful after they walk across the stage and receive their diploma. Ravenna Public Schools emphasizes the motto "Planted in Promise; Growing in Pride" and looks for leaders who embody GRIT (Perseverance, Persistence, and Integrity).

 

QUALIFICATIONS and DUTIES

Valid Michigan School Administrator Certification
Must hold a Michigan School Administrator Certificate (or Permit with enrollment in an approved Administrator Preparation program within six months)

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or Administration
Master’s in Educational Administration, Leadership, or a closely related field is highly preferred

Administrative Experience (2–4 years)
Prior leadership experience (Principal, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, or Dean) is highly preferred

Successful Teaching Experience (3–5 years)
Evidence of effective teaching practice at the middle or secondary level is generally required

Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Oversight
Experience leading curriculum development, implementing instructional initiatives, and using data to improve learning outcomes

Staff Supervision and Performance Evaluation
Proven ability to supervise, mentor, evaluate, and support certified and support staff

School Safety & Student Discipline Management
Skilled in creating safe environments, implementing discipline plans, holding students accountable, restorative practices, and supervising student conduct

Budgeting, Scheduling, and School Operations
Competence in managing building budgets, developing master schedules, overseeing facilities, and ensuring smooth daily operations

Student Advocacy & Culture Building Promotes the "GRIT" philosophy, supports special education compliance (IEPs/504s), and fosters a culture of perseverance and persistence.

Community Engagement & Extracurricular Supervision Acts as a visible face of RHS at athletic events, fine arts performances, and community forums to strengthen "Bulldog Pride."

Post-Secondary Readiness Facilitation Coordinates with the school counselor to ensure all students are "One Step Ahead" through CTE programs, dual enrollment, and college/career planning.

Compliance with Policies and Laws
Knowledge of Michigan and federal education laws, state reporting and implementation of board policies

Salary/Benefits - Commensurate with education and experience, $95,000 - $110,000
