Summer Unit Aide

The Summer Unit Aide assists in providing physical coverage, guidance and directions to emotionally and behaviorally challenged children in a residential unit setting during the summer months. A Summer Unit Aide learns to demonstrate a variety of counseling and parenting skills that support the formation of trusting, supportive relationships with the children. The position will participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans and unit programs that are designated to meet the special needs of the children.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in providing counseling for children around life-space issues.
  • Assist in evaluating each child’s behavior according to the departmental Performance Evaluation Program on a daily basis.
  • Assist in conducting, escorting and supervising children on activities throughout our 200 acre campus.
  • Fully perform restraints as necessary when ordered by a licensed professional using the current approved KidsPeace restraint methodology on youth who may weight in excess of 250 pounds and who are verbally or physically threatening or otherwise presenting a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participate in small, organized group meetings aimed at teaching children social and other life skills.
  • Provide minor First Aid treatment to children.
  • Possess knowledge and ability to carry out all emergency procedures i.e.: fire, CPR, poison control, First Aid, etc.
  • Assist in delivering common sense, practical consequences for behavioral problems according to unit/agency policies in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Complete all clerical tasks related to the position.
  • Assist in putting children to bed in a supportive manner.
  • Effectively communicate any problems/areas of concern to other staff members.
  • Will acquire and maintain competency with trainings pertaining to the care for and management and development of the clientele in our care, i.e.; Medication Administration, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess, exhibit and maintain competency in dealing with children.
  • Successful completion a physical and drug screen, pass a Criminal Record History Clearance and a Child Abuse History Clearance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Must possess basic personal computer knowledge and skills.
  • Valid driver's license
  • SCM certification and CPR/First Aid certifications required, will obtain during new hire training

Rate: $18.50 -$22.00 an hour

Schedule: Full Time (3PM-11PM) weekends required, you have 2 consecutive days off during the week.

Location: Orefield, PA (must be within commutable distance)

Training: May 11th or May 26th, Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM for 2 weeks
