Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is seeking a motivated Advocacy Intern to support content development, policy research, and communication initiatives that advance affordable housing advocacy efforts in our community.

This internship is an excellent opportunity for students or emerging professionals interested in public policy, nonprofit advocacy, community development, or professional writing.

You’ll gain hands-on experience researching housing policy issues, developing advocacy communications, and supporting mission-driven outreach efforts that help promote safe and affordable housing across the Charlotte region.

About the Role:

The Advocacy Intern will help create written content for the website, advocacy newsletter, and blog communications while supporting research and outreach efforts related to affordable housing and community advocacy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research affordable housing, homeownership, and public policy issues related to advocacy priorities
  • Support development of written content for website advocacy pages, newsletters, and campaign materials
  • Assist communication initiatives related to community advocacy and potential policy measures
  • Attend selected city and county public meetings or community events with the Advocacy team
  • Contribute to special projects supporting organizational advocacy priorities
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities
  • Provide additional support to department initiatives as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • Interest in public policy, communications, nonprofit advocacy, or community development
  • Motivation to improve professional writing and research skills
  • Passion for learning about affordable housing and homeownership policy issues
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Comfort conducting research on advocacy and community topics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic digital tools
  • Willingness to develop presentation and public speaking skills

Education & Experience:

Preferred: Working toward a bachelor’s degree

  • Primarily office-based work environment
  • Moderate office noise level with collaborative team activity
  • Ability to use computers, phone systems, and office equipment for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through digital platforms
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for several hours at a time
