Visuals Intern

Job Summary
The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a creative and motivated Visuals Intern to join our newsroom for the summer. We’re looking for students studying journalism, communications, or a related field who have experience with photography and/or video through their college publications or other relevant work.

This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.


What You’ll Do

  • Produce high-quality photography and video content covering news, sports, and entertainment across the Philadelphia region
  • Approach assignments with a multimedia mindset, capturing both still images and video when appropriate
  • Pitch and develop creative visual story ideas that resonate with our audience
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, and other members of the visuals team
  • Edit and deliver content on deadline in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Experiment with new storytelling formats and platforms to reach broader audiences
  • Complete a final capstone project summarizing your experience and key takeaways

     

Who We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • Rising juniors or seniors studying journalism, communications, or a related field, as well as recent graduates and current graduate students working with a college publication or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Strong photography and/or video skills, including editing and basic production knowledge
  • Familiarity with digital platforms and an understanding of visual storytelling for online audiences
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and journalistic ethics
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Self-starter who is curious, creative, and eager to learn
  • Demonstrates a commitment to inclusive storytelling and contributing to a positive team culture
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally; access to a car is a plus but not required
