BCLA Summer Internship Program - Homelessness Prevention Fellow


(Must be currently enrolled in BCLA during summer 2026 to apply) 

The BCLA Summer Internship Program aims to secure 50 meaningful internship placements for students across a variety of sectors, including small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and entrepreneurial ventures.

  • Position Title: Homelessness Prevention Initiatives Division Fellow
    Organization: City of Santa Monica – Human Services Division 
    Location: Hybrid, Santa Monica  
  • Job Type: BCLA Summer Internship  
  • Number of Positions: 2 Interns   
    Academic Level: Incoming Junior, Senior, Master's (in Fall 2026)  
    College: Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts   
  • Hours: Approximately 30-hours per week for 8 weeks   
  • Duration: Summer 2026   
  • Compensation: [$4000 stipend, and/or course credit, as applicable] 

Position Overview

The Homelessness Prevention Initiatives Division Fellow will support critical housing stability programs focused on eviction prevention, rental assistance, transitional housing coordination, and housing retention outcomes. This role offers students the opportunity to contribute to systems that help individuals and families remain safely housed.

The Fellow will engage in research, data tracking, outreach support, and cross departmental coordination to strengthen program effectiveness. This position is well suited for students interested in housing justice, public policy, social services, and community-based work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research local and national eviction prevention strategies and promising practices
  • Track housing retention outcomes and assist with reporting metrics
  • Support rental subsidy utilization and performance reporting
  • Develop outreach materials to increase awareness of housing resources
  • Assist with transitional housing coordination and case tracking systems
  • Contribute to internal documentation that strengthens service delivery processes

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, Fellows will:

  • Build professional competencies in ethical practice, communication, and data tracking

This fellowship provides meaningful exposure to local government housing initiatives while allowing students to apply liberal arts training to urgent community needs.
