BCLA Summer Internship - Human Services Fellow Data Analytics & Homeless Prevention

  • Position Title: Human Services Division Fellow – Data Analytics & Homelessness Prevention

    Location: Hybrid, Santa Monica 
  • Job Type: BCLA Summer Internship 
  • Number of Positions: 1 Intern  
    Academic Level: Incoming Junior, Senior, Master's (in Fall 2026)   
    College: Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts  
  • Hours: Approximately 30-hours per week for 8 weeks  
  • Duration: Summer 2026  
  • Compensation: [$4000 stipend, and/or course credit, as applicable] 

Position Overview

The Human Services Division Fellow will contribute to the City’s homelessness prevention strategy by strengthening data systems, research capacity, and performance evaluation tools. This internship is ideal for a student who enjoys working with data and is motivated to apply analytical skills in a public service context.

The Fellow will help translate complex housing and homelessness data into actionable insights that inform policy, funding decisions, and community interventions. This is a hands-on opportunity to support local government efforts aimed at housing stability and systems improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a Homelessness Prevention dashboard to track program outcomes and performance indicators
  • Compile and analyze housing and homelessness data from peer cities to support benchmarking efforts
  • Contribute to the creation of a Data Analytics Playbook outlining processes, metrics, and best practices
  • Support data entry, validation, and quality assurance processes
  • Draft data informed reports, summaries, and internal memos for leadership and cross sector partners
  • Translate quantitative findings into clear narrative insights for diverse audiences

Preferred Interests and Skills

  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with Tableau or Power BI is a plus
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly in writing
  • Relevant Academic Backgrounds

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the Fellow will:
