Residential Facilities Project Assistant

 

Selected candidate will work closely with professional staff within the Residential Facilities department of the Division of Student Life. The scope of the internship will allow the individual to gain exposure to the summer operations at a large university from the perspective of the residential facilities department. This position will directly support project managers working on capital and operational projects and upgrades. On a given day, responsibilities may include oversight and supervision of student staff, oversight of 3rd party contractors, coordination with Student Life and Housing Services personnel, among other supportive duties. The candidate will interface with all members of the residential facilities team, and many members of the larger Student Life division, gaining exposure to the many and unique perspectives of summer operations at a large University. The focus of this specific internship is outlined below, and a final determination will be made by the intern and the direct supervisor.

 

Position Responsibilities

This individual will work with and assist the Residential Facilities Project Manager with tasks associated with summer turnover and rehabilitation projects throughout our residential properties.

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and day-to-day operations of summer turnover and rehab projects management at the University’s on-campus housing facilities.  This includes participation in contractor meetings, coordination with office staff, and communication with students, among other tasks.
  • Project Management of turnover and rehab projects
  • Provide administrative support tracking invoices for completed contractor work.
  • The intern will assist in the inspections of apartments before and after they have been painted, cleaned, repaired, or have appliances changed out.
  • This will be a mix of office and fieldwork. 

General Expectations

  • The intern will complete 37.5 hours per week[1], throughout the summer. 
  • The intern will participate in professional staff meetings and professional development sessions as scheduled.
  • The intern will meet individually with the Intern Supervisor weekly.
  • The individual will be expected to assist in the delivery of service to customers, including, but not limited to, assisting with general office coverage as well as clerical and administrative support as needed.
  • Employment dates are May 18th – August 14th. Dates may be flexible.

 

Qualifications

The individual must be enrolled in an undergraduate, Master’s, or doctoral program in in facilities management, project management, or a field related to the opportunity. 

 

Remuneration

The intern will be paid $18.50 per hour for 37.5[1] hours per week.  A private apartment is offered from May 18 until August 14.
