Thesis/Dissertation Editor
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled editor to provide editorial support for graduate-level theses and dissertations. The selected candidate will review and edit documents to ensure clarity, organization, grammatical accuracy, formatting consistency, and adherence to university guidelines and academic standards.
This position operates on an as-needed basis. Weekly hours are not guaranteed and will vary depending on the volume and scope of thesis and dissertation editing requests.
Minimum Requirements:
- An earned Master’s degree or higher, providing first-hand experience with the graduate defense and submission lifecycle.
- Ability to format theses and dissertations in strict accordance with the USU School of Graduate Studies Publication Guide.
- Demonstrated experience applying 7th Edition APA style specifically within the complex structures of long-form academic manuscripts.
- Expertise in editing and proofreading graduate-level research to ensure academic tone, technical accuracy, and consistency.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat for managing iterative revisions of complex, multi-chapter documents.
- Ability to provide critical structural feedback on document layout and formatting to enhance the clarity, flow, and logical structure of research.
- Proven experience navigating stakeholder relationships, collaborating with Supervisory Committees and Major Advisors to meet departmental and institutional standards.
- Direct experience with higher education operations, specifically regarding the official university theses and dissertation clearance process.
- Demonstrated ability to manage production timelines and coordinate communication between professors, graduate students, and the department.
- This position is telework-eligible within the state of Utah.
- ACA variable-hour position
