Position Summary:
We are seeking undergraduate or graduate interns to participate in a supervised, experiential learning internship within an outdoor and environmental education program. Interns will engage in place-based education on public lands, supporting the facilitation of hiking-centered, grade-level curriculum in a safe, inclusive learning environment. Under the mentorship of experienced educators, interns will develop skills in experiential teaching methods, youth engagement, risk management, and professional collaboration. This internship offers practical application of coursework in education, environmental studies, recreation, or related fields, with opportunities available across multiple grade levels.

Required Job Qualifications:
- Must have 3 months full-time or equivalent (455 hours) verifiable experience working with 4 or more children over the age of 4 who are not related to the individual; or hold a degree in elementary, early childhood, environmental education; or a current early childhood professional credential Level I.
- Must be at least 18 years of age, or 20 years for van driver eligibility.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively based on written application materials.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Strong background in natural sciences, environmental education, knowledge of outdoor safety skills and Leave No Trace techniques.
- Ability to hike moderate to difficult trails.
Essential Duties:
- Support the supervision and safety of up to 10 campers during hikes, experiential learning activities, and field-based exploration of local public lands.
- Develop competencies in facilitating experiential and place-based learning activities for youth audiences.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities aligned with established curriculum frameworks and program philosophy.
- Support administrative and operational procedures, including daily camper check-in/check-out in compliance with Colorado State Day Care Licensing requirements, and the organization and maintenance of program equipment.
- Create a poster that encapsulates the work you completed over the summer and present it to Extension Faculty and Staff at OEE’s annual forum next fall.
