Algae Technician

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Algae Technician is responsible for overseeing the continuous microalgae bag system for Clam Fresh Enterprises. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

1. Manages nutrient and chemical stocks for algae production. 

2. Performs cleaning and sanitation duties for algae production equipment. 

3. Prepares flask, media, and algae production equipment for autoclaving. 

4. Performs algae flask culture in the lab. 

5. Monitors algae growth parameters in the lab and greenhouse. 

6. Performs microalgae culture in continuous harvest algae bag system. 

7. Performs sanitation routines in continuous harvest algae bag systems. 

8. Performs microalgae culture in a batch algae system. 

9. Performs sanitation routines in a batch algae system. 

10. Performs weekly steaming routines. 

11. Manages sanitation logs for the lab and greenhouse. 

12. Assists the nursery manager as needed. 

13. Assists the nursery biologist as needed. 

14. Attends and/or facilitates all mandatory meetings and training. 

15. Maintains confidentiality at all times. 

16. Maintains awareness and sensitivity to Native American Culture. 

17. Performs other duties as assigned.

● This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

● Ability to write simple correspondence. 

● Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and coworkers. 

● Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

● Ability to participate as a team member as well as an individual contributor. 

● Ability to communicate effectively with management and coworkers. 

● Ability to respond promptly to the needs of the company. 

● Ability to apply common sense to carry out written and oral instructions. 

● Ability to work weekends as needed. 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) 

● Working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (Data entry, Basic Formulas, formatting) 

● Strong computer skills with experience in Excel spreadsheets and digital record management 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent 

Education Preferred: Degree in aquaculture or related field 

Experience: One year of microalgae production experience 

A combination of education and experience may be considered as a substitute for a degree requirement.

● Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

● The employee may frequently be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Proper lifting techniques and back supports should be used when working with heavy materials. There will typically be other coworkers that can assist with jobs that require substantial lifting, etc. 

● The use of safety gear is required for all pertinent jobs.

● Most work is performed inside the flask room and greenhouse. 

● At times you will be required to work outside in rainy or sunny conditions.
