Summer Camp Waterfront Lifeguard

Lifeguards must hold an approved lifeguard certification, with current CPR certification or willingness to obtain before the summer. Responsibilities include supervising campers in all waterfront activities and enforcing waterfront rules. 

Lutherdale seeks hourly lifeguards, weekend lifeguards, and lifeguards committed to the full summer. 

  • Lead campers through programmed waterfront activities
  • Actively Guard campers while they are in the water and enforce waterfront rules
  • Supervise and Guard campers while in watercraft
  • Clean up waterfront after each group. This includes raking the beach, putting away toys, etc.
  • Keep the boathouse in good condition. Keep paddles, lifejackets, and other materials organized.
  • Look for and report any maintenance issues at the waterfront.
  • Conduct swim tests under the waterfront coordinators supervision. Supply campers with appropriately sized lifejackets if needed. 
  • Watch for non-Lutherdale boats and people who get close to property. Inform Waterfront Coordinator.
  • Participate in weekly lifeguard skills training
  • Attend all staff meetings on Sundays and Fridays
  • When not lifeguarding or on scheduled off hours – support cabin leaders. Communicate with program coordinator for any needs. This may be leading an activity for a cabin leader, helping with a specific camper, or preparing materials for other activities.
  • Participate, Lead, and Create daily worships. 
  • Keep a clean cabin space. Participate in weekly camp cleaning in a timely manner.
  • Connect with campers and help them feel safe and confident at camp. 
    • Report any conversations with confidential information.
  • Know and be prepared for any emergency procedures – especially waterfront emergencies
  • Support and supervise campers emotional and physical safety.
  • Follow Personnel Policies

Qualifications:

  • Be a team player. Lifeguards work with campers and staff from all backgrounds. 
  • Positive Attitude. Camp can be hard,  staying positive helps campers and staff feel energized.
  • Willingness to be a listening ear and empathetic voice
  • Open minded and willing to help out in other areas. 
  • Attention to safety in the water. Strong commitment to safety and rules.
