Position Overview
The Health Education & Tobacco Prevention Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating evidence-based health education initiatives across Northwest Georgia’s 18-county region. This position prioritizes tobacco/vaping prevention and cessation programming while supporting broader health education initiatives aligned with NWGRCC’s strategic plan and evolving state and federal priorities. This role requires a highly adaptable health educator who can independently research, interpret, and translate emerging public health topics into effective community-based programming. The Coordinator will assist in program development, implementation, evaluation, policy education, and community partnership development across multiple health focus areas. This position reports to the President/CEO and works collaboratively with coalition partners, community stakeholders, schools, healthcare systems, and regional leaders.
Primary Responsibilities
Tobacco Prevention & Control
- Lead implementation of regional tobacco use and vaping prevention and cessation initiatives.
- Coordinate youth and community tobacco education programs, including vaping prevention.
- Promote and support referrals to the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line.
- Support clean indoor air and tobacco-free policy education and advocacy.
- Build and sustain partnerships to expand tobacco prevention outreach and policy initiatives.
- Assist communities in understanding and enforcing current tobacco-free policies.
Health Education & Program Development
- Assist in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, and activities across multiple health topics as priorities evolve.
- Research emerging public health issues and translate findings into actionable education strategies.
- Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based health education programs and campaigns.
- Support development of new vaping education strategies and youth engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with coalition partners, schools, healthcare systems, community organizations, and local governments on health promotion initiatives.
- Participate in community events, health fairs, coalition meetings, and regional planning efforts.
Evaluation, Reporting & Grants
- Develop and administer evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate program statistics and documentation.
- Assist with required grant reports and data collection and submission.
- Assist in grant proposal writing, budget development, and research of background data.
- Utilize web-based reporting systems as required by funding agencies.
Community Engagement & Communication
- Provide oral and written communication regarding health education topics, policies, and coalition activities.
- Develop and deliver educational presentations to diverse audiences.
- Assist with public awareness campaigns using media outlets, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Represent NWGRCC on relevant committees, boards, and regional initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, or related field (required).
- CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 12–18 months of hire.
- At least two years of relevant health education, community outreach, or public health experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong foundation in health education theory and evidence-based practice.
- Ability to independently learn and synthesize new public health topics quickly.
- Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and sustain strong community partnerships.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based reporting systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Additional Requirements
- Travel throughout NWGRCC’s 18-county region is required.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Passion for public health, prevention, and health equity.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $40,000+ commensurate with education and experience
