Water/Sewer Infrastructure Engineering Intern (CIVIL)

 

Job Summary:   

The Engineering Intern provides technical, field, and administrative support to the Engineering Department with culinary and sanitary sewer Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), development reviews, construction inspection, and construction contract administration.

This position is for 40 hours per week (6:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Thursday) May through August of the current year (exact dates can be flexible with the candidate’s school schedule). Additional part-time dates outside the school year may be possible.

This position is temporary (seasonal) and will not be eligible for benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist with construction inspections of residential and commercial culinary water and sanitary sewer mainlines, services, laterals, and appurtenances to ensure District standards and plans, and local regulatory requirements have been met, including any and all testing requirements. Record documentation of inspections in Cityworks, attend construction meetings, and prepare project documents as needed.
  2. Support coordination of CIP across departments by assisting with project tracking, schedule coordination, cost estimating, material verification, tracking quantities, collection of meeting minutes, punch list and warranty reviews. Assist with maintaining project records and documenting project progress.
  3. Assist engineering staff with updates to District standard specifications, standard drawings, and related contract documents.
  4. Conduct GPS data collection, utilizing Leica GPS equipment. Responsible for coordinating with GIS Data Analyst to incorporate the data into the District's database.
  5. Assist Engineering Designer/Surveyor and GIS Data Analyst with easement research, mapping, and AutoCAD drafting.
  6. Assist with general administrative tasks including copying, scanning, filing, organizing department documents, and data entry.

General Qualification Requirements:   

Prior Work Experience:   

  • Previous experience in construction management, specifically for water and sewer utilities and infrastructure preferred.
  • Familiarity with GPS survey equipment preferred.

Education: 

  • High school diploma required.
  • Completion of at least two years in Civil/ Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field.

Licenses, Certifications, Etc.:

  • Valid Utah driver’s license.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) preferred.
