Middle School Learning Specialist, Leave (AY26-27)

Start Date: August 2026

Reports To: Director of Student Support Services and Director of Middle School

Summary Description:

BB&N is seeking a Middle School Learning Specialist for a one-year leave.  Responsibilities include the coordination of academic student support for the 7th and 8th grades–working with teachers to support best practices to improve student learning, supporting student assessment, teaching individual or small groups when necessary, documenting student progress and needs, and conferencing with students.  The MS Learning Specialist will work closely with the Middle School Director and the Director of Student Support Services.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

This position will require collaboration with Learning Specialists on all three campuses and support the transitions of students and families from campus to campus. In addition, the Learning Specialist will assist educators and families with the continued management of Learning Profiles, as well as assist with communication for those students receiving outside support. 

Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to: 

Co-leadership role of the Student Support Team.

Collaboration with and supervision of the Academic Specialist.

Provide direct services to students needing support.

Direct work with teachers and advisors.

Coordinate referrals for outside evaluations.

Coordinate in-house intake of evaluations, including creation of learning profiles.

Provide consults to teachers, advisors, parents, and outside providers.

 

Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:

A Graduate degree in Special Education, Language & Literacy, Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field is required. Proven experience working with children of middle school age with mild to moderate learning needs. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

Experience providing direct instruction to students with learning issues across the curriculum, specifically around organizational and study skills.

Ability to organize and maintain a learning center for students with a range of learning styles.

Ability to create and follow through on individualized plans that support students' specific learning needs and accommodate their learning styles.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well with different constituents of the school.

Patience, humor, and flexibility.

Professional boundaries in the handling of privileged information; respect and use of appropriate information channels.

 

Salary: $69,500 - $115,754

BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistent compensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands (0-30 years).
