General Job Description: This is skilled mechanical work at the full performance/journey level in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment in a large City facility or several facilities.  An employee in this class utilizes mechanical trade skills in the maintenance and repair of machinery and related equipment including, but not limited to generators, motors, pumps, compressors, fans and valves and may lead lower level mechanics in such work.  Work also includes performing other basic trades tasks as assigned such as routine plumbing and electrical work.  Employees service equipment breakdowns in environments such as offices, storerooms, basements, roofs, laboratories, laundry, pool, airport and patient care areas.  Significant to the work is inspecting and diagnosing malfunctioning mechanical equipment to determine equipment problems.  Work involves some disagreeable aspects and physical effort.  Employees report to a higher-level maintenance superior.

The Requirements are as follows: 

ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY:

OPTION 1

1. EDUCATION:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

AND

2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical devices or equipment utilizing several mechanical skills.

AND

3. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience as a Machinery and Equipment Mechanic 1 or equivalent experience at the intermediate level maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical devices or equipment utilizing several mechanical skills.

OR

OPTION 2

1. EDUCATION:

Completion of a post high school mechanical trade program   at an accredited vocational technical institute, trade school or college in a related field including possession of a diploma indicating completion of all program curriculum requirements.

AND

2. EXPERIENCE:

Two years of as a Machinery and Equipment Mechanic 1 or equivalent experience at the intermediate level maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical devices or equipment utilizing several mechanical skills.
