About Tanbii

Tanbii is a mobile app that turns sustainability and climate-positive behaviors into engaging, game-based experiences. Our mission is to make living green fun, social, and rewarding—and sound plays a critical role in how immersive and delightful that experience feels.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a Background Music & Sound Effects Intern to help define the sonic identity of Tanbii. You’ll create, source, and refine background music and sound effects that enhance gameplay, reinforce user actions, and elevate the overall player experience.

This is a hands-on creative role with real product impact, where your work will be shipped directly into a live mobile app.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and curate background music loops that align with Tanbii’s tone (fun, positive, motivating, climate-forward).
  • Design and implement sound effects for in-game actions such as:
    • Rewards, achievements, and level-ups
    • Button taps, transitions, and feedback cues
    • Success, progress, and milestone moments
  • Collaborate with the Tanbii product and engineering team to ensure audio assets integrate smoothly into gameplay.
  • Iterate on audio based on user feedback, gameplay testing, and performance insights.
  • Help establish basic audio guidelines (volume levels, loop timing, emotional tone).
  • Share creative ideas for how sound can improve engagement, retention, and overall immersion.

Internship Structure

  • Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week with flexibility.
  • Onboarding (Weeks 1–2):
    • Work with the Tanbii team to define audio needs, themes, and a delivery roadmap.
  • Ongoing:
    • Scope and responsibilities can evolve based on your interests, strengths, and Tanbii’s needs.
  • Meetings:
    • Preferred (but not mandatory): Join Tanbii team meetings on Thursdays at 8pm CST to share progress and insights.

What We’re Looking For

  • Interest or experience in music production, sound design, audio engineering, or game audio.
  • Familiarity with DAWs or audio tools (Ableton, Logic, FL Studio, GarageBand, Pro Tools, or similar).
  • Ability to create short, loopable tracks and clean sound effects.
  • Strong creative instincts and attention to detail.
  • Passion for games, interactive media, or climate/sustainability is a plus.
  • Bonus: Experience with mobile games, Unity/Unreal audio workflows, or adaptive game audio.

What You’ll Gain

  • Real-world experience shipping audio into a live mobile game.
  • Portfolio-ready work with credited contributions.
  • Direct collaboration with founders, engineers, and product leadership.
  • Insight into how sound design drives user engagement and retention in games.
  • Opportunity to grow the role or continue with Tanbii beyond the internship.
