Summary of Position
Under the supervision of the Chief Compliance Officer, the Legal & Compliance Intern provides general support to the Legal and Compliance team by assisting with assigned projects, administrative tasks, and day-to-day operations. This role is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on learning experience while contributing to team objectives. As a paid internship position, this role is intended to last approximately 12 weeks and is considered a full-time 40-hour per week role. This role will have a focus on administrative assistance, document review and project support, while providing hands-on exposure to the legal and regulatory functions of a healthcare organization. Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Legal & Executive Assistant is a pivotal role that sits at the intersection of executive leadership support and workplace operations. This role supports the organization across three equally important dimensions: maximizing the effectiveness of the General Counsel, providing administrative support to the broader Executive Team and managing the day-to-day operations of our Support Center.
This role offers exposure to executive leadership, legal operations, and organizational priorities across the enterprise, and therefore requires strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The Intern is accountable for:
1. Accurate and timely completion of assigned work in alignment with defined expectations, timelines, and quality standards.
2. Effective organization and maintenance of information and materials to support team decision-making, project execution, and learning initiatives.
3. High-quality preparation of materials and resources that meet established formatting, accuracy, and documentation standards.
4. Professional participation and engagement in meetings, training, and collaborative team interactions.
5. Consistent adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and role-specific guidelines, including confidentiality, data privacy, and security requirements.
6. Continuous learning and development through actively seeking feedback and applying learnings to improve performance and skill development.
To fulfill these accountabilities, the Intern will:
• Update, organize, and maintain contract templates and legal documentation• Review contracts and summarize key terms, obligations, and restrictions under guidance
• Assist with preparing litigation discovery materials and responses
• Provide administrative and project support for transactional legal matters
• Assist with drafting responses to governmental and regulatory inquiries under supervision (e.g., EEOC,DWD, DSPS)
• Support drafting and updating compliance, privacy, and HIPAA-related manuals and documentation
• Assist with routine compliance monitoring and documentation activities
• A modest taxable stipend is provided to help offset personal transportation expenses related to commuting to the internship location
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- This position’s responsibilities primarily involve sitting, standing, and walking in a professional office environment.
- The role requires frequent use of standard computer/laptop equipment.
- Occasional carrying of items under 10 pounds is required.
- The Intern role is highly collaborative and designed as a full onsite position at the downtown Milwaukee Support Center.
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
- A taxable transportation stipend will be provided.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Candidates must have completed their first or second year of law school (for applicable internships)
- Must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in Legal or learning more about the field
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Demonstrates proficient computer skills with the ability to learn company applications
