ABOUT ROCKET MONEYđź”®
Rocket Money’s mission is to meaningfully improve the financial prosperity of millions of people. Rocket Money offers members a unique understanding of their finances and a suite of valuable services that save them time and money – ultimately giving them a leg up on their financial journey.
Please note: This is a hybrid position, with an in-office requirement of 2-3 days per week in our Washington DC office.
ABOUT THE TEAM 🤝
At Rocket Money, Product Design is not a service function, it is a strategic partner.
Our designers work end-to-end:
- From early discovery and problem framing
- To concept exploration and iteration
- Through production-ready handoff and QA
- All the way to measuring impact post-launch
We believe great design is not just beautiful, it is intentional, measurable, and accountable.
We care deeply about:
- Turning complex financial systems into intuitive, human-centered experiences
- Designing with data, not just intuition
- Building scalable patterns, not one-off screens
- Shipping work that impacts millions and learning from how it performs
Interns here don’t sit on the sidelines. You will contribute to real product initiatives and be held to the same standards of clarity, rigor, and collaboration as the rest of the team, with the support and mentorship to grow into it.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:
- Own clearly defined pieces of real features that ship to production.
- Participate in sprint rituals, critiques, cross-functional jams, and executive reviews.
- Move from low-fidelity exploration to polished, production-ready UI in Figma.
- Learn how to defend your design decisions using research, data, and clear reasoning.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Data, and Research partners.
- Work within and contribute to our Design System, understanding when to follow patterns and when to thoughtfully evolve them.
- Observe and learn how design decisions are measured post-launch, understanding how user behavior informs iteration.
- Experience what it means to design in a high-accountability, high-craft environment.
Mentorship & Learning đź’Ş
We take internships seriously. This is not a “shadow and observe” role.
You’ll have:
- A dedicated design mentor for weekly 1:1 craft and growth conversations.
- Structured feedback in critiques and design reviews.
- Exposure to how senior designers navigate ambiguity, tradeoffs, and real-world constraints.
- Clear goals at the start of your internship and measurable growth outcomes by the end.
By the conclusion of the internship, you will:
- Understand the full lifecycle of shipping a feature inside a cross-functional product team.
- Be able to articulate tradeoffs between usability, feasibility, and business impact.
- Contribute to shipped work and gain material you can confidently incorporate into your portfolio.
- Demonstrate stronger systems thinking, designing beyond the screen and into the broader product ecosystem.
- Understand how scalable patterns, documentation, and experimentation support long-term product quality.
ABOUT YOU 🦄
- You’re currently pursuing a degree in Product Design, UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Design, or a related field.
- You have a portfolio that demonstrates strong design fundamentals and thoughtful problem solving.
- You understand that design is more than aesthetics, it’s clarity, structure, and intention.
- You’re comfortable in Figma and excited to refine your craft.
- You are curious and ask thoughtful questions about “why,” not just “what.”
- You take pride in doing great work, caring about the details without losing sight of the bigger system.
- You deliver on commitments and communicate proactively.
- You actively seek feedback and push yourself to improve.
Bonus if you:
- Have experimented with prototyping, usability testing, or data-informed iteration.
- Have worked within a design system before.
- Are excited about designing in fintech, where trust, clarity, and responsibility are paramount.
