Youth Outdoors Assistant Service-Learning Position
Position Description
The Youth Outdoors service-learning internship provides the opportunity for hands-on experience in serving urban youth park guests. The intern will work closely with recreation specialist staff to assist with summer camp at Camp Forbes, Euclid Creek Camp, and other groups as needed. This service-learning intern will help connect urban youth to recreation activities in a fun, fast paced outdoor environment.
Schedule
- Dates June 8, 2026 - August 13, 2026
- 16 hours/week Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4 pm

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and activities may include (but not limited to):
- Working with children between the ages of 8 and 18 years old
- Assisting with various summer camp programs and program preparations
- Enforcing and following safety guidelines associated with the camp program
- Reporting camper concerns to camp leadership to resolve issues
- May also assist with animal care, office tasks, and cleaning of camp supplies
Requirements
- Currently a junior/senior in high school or enrolled in a college/university
- Interest in environmental interpretation, education, natural resources, wildlife management, or a related field
- Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups of up to 30 people
- Willing and able to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education and activities
- Comfortable lifting at least 25 lbs.
- Enjoys working outdoors
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
