AI Impact Fellow (Summer Internship)

About Code Platoon

Code Platoon is a nonprofit coding bootcamp serving Veterans, Servicemembers, and Military Family Members transitioning into tech careers. We are exploring how applied AI can increase organizational capacity and mission impact.

We are hiring one AI Impact Fellow for Summer 2026.

 

Role Overview

This 10–12 week internship focuses on applied AI research and prototyping. The Fellow will identify high-leverage opportunities where AI can improve recruitment, fundraising, and internal operations.

You will:

  • Audit workflows for AI application opportunities
  • Build and test small-scale prototypes
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools
  • Deliver structured recommendations with cost/benefit analysis
  • Present findings to leadership

This is a hands-on, independent role — not a shadowing internship.

 

Focus Areas

Recruitment & Marketing

  • AI-assisted lead qualification
  • Chat-based pre-qualification tools
  • Funnel friction analysis

Development & Fundraising

  • Prospect research automation
  • Grant drafting support systems
  • Donor segmentation analysis

Internal Operations

  • Process automation
  • AI-assisted data analysis workflows

You will prioritize 1–3 high-impact opportunities and produce working prototypes or documented frameworks.

 

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Rising senior or recent graduate in CS, Data Science, AI, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
  • Experience building applied AI projects or prototypes
  • Familiarity with embeddings, vector search, or orchestration frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

You should be comfortable operating independently and explaining technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

  • 10–12 weeks (June–August, flexible start)
