Executive Pathways Tribal and Urban Indian Relations (TUIR) Intern

The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service.

Job Summary

This position is eligible for telework for applicants who reside in Minnesota or in a bordering state, with supervisory approval and satisfactory performance. If you live in a state bordering Minnesota, you must live within 50 miles or less from the primary work location to be eligible for telework.

The Tribal and Urban Indian Relations (TUIR) Intern will learn about the implementation of MN Statute 10.65 Government-to-Government Relationship with Tribal Governments. The TUIR Intern will take the Tribal State Relations Training, assist in the organization of, setting up and gathering materials for the Annual Department of Human Services Tribal Consultations, the Urban Annual Meeting and Annual Tribal and Urban Legislative Summits. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in tribal relations, program development, and applying policy research to real-world challenges. They are passionate about improving the health and well-being of American Indian communities and are eager to contribute to DHS's mission. This internship offers hands-on experience in policy research, program evaluation, and collaboration with Tribal governments, providing valuable skills and insights into advancing equity in health and human services.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist in research, business planning, program development, and preparing for tribal government negotiations
  • Evaluate and monitor health and human services programs to reduce health disparities among American Indian populations
  • Support the implementation of government-to-government consultation policies and assist in planning the annual legislative summit and tribal consultations
