Location: Lake Buena Vista, FL (Onsite)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm (may include overtime, variable shifts)

Employment Type: 18‑Month Contract

Pay: $50-55/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match

 

Overview

The Engineering organization is seeking a Mechanical Designer to create and communicate design intent through production drawings in support of capital and sustainment projects for innovative attractions. This role partners with Engineering, project management, vendors, and cross‑functional teams to produce CAD models, detail drawings, and engineering documentation for both conceptual and production‑level design packages.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and participate in project design reviews
  • Perform research using historical/background data to identify project requirements and develop design solutions
  • Research and select materials, processes, and vendors for design projects
  • Ensure drawings comply with applicable codes, legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal/industry standards
  • Review design packages with vendors and fabrication shops for conformance with design documentation
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Document Management to ensure accurate as‑built documentation within electronic data management systems (ATLAS)
  • Support knowledge‑sharing around current design technologies, materials, and best practices
  • Provide CAD design layouts and detail drawings supporting capital and expense projects

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of design experience as a Designer or degreed Engineer within a multi‑discipline technical team
  • Exceptional SolidWorks and AutoCAD experience (modeling + drawing creation; training/certification preferred)
  • Strong mechanical design and engineering fundamentals, including manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of materials (metals, composites, plastics), welding, finish processes, ASME standards (Y14 & Y14.5), and engineering documentation
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Effective communication with all levels of management, including executive stakeholders
  • Ability to rapidly learn new software tools
  • Ability to work independently or within a team with consistent communication
  • Flexible scheduling (weekends, nights, holidays, overtime, variable shifts)
  • Able to spend long periods seated at a CAD workstation
  • Physical ability to climb stairs/ladders, crawl, enter confined spaces, and work after hours when gathering field data or testing attractions

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a theme park design environment
  • Electrical drafting/design experience in 2D and 3D
  • Reliability‑centered maintenance experience
  • Eplan experience (training/certification)
  • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP)
  • GD&T professional training/certification
  • PMP certification or equivalent

 

Education

  • Required: AA/AS degree or equivalent work experience
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
