Summary:
This position coordinates, supports, and works to improve the Centaurus High School Engineering program. This fun and unique department aims to offer an engaging, innovative, and welcoming educational experience for the engineering students of Centaurus High School.
Responsibilities:
- Community Outreach and Connections: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with feeder schools, the University of Colorado, BVSD CTE, and industry professionals to enhance vertical articulation and expand student opportunities. This role involves leading outreach efforts specifically targeting underrepresented students in engineering through the coordination of site visits, guest speakers, field trips, and shared projects that bridge classroom learning with professional environments. Additionally, the position is responsible for seeking, organizing, and communicating internship and mentoring opportunities to ensure all students have access to career pathways and experiential learning.
- Curriculum, Certifications and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Administration: Pay the Curriculum provider, PLTW and purchase Certiport vouchers. Maintain certification records and provide required data to district contacts. Support PLCs, teacher needs, and occasional classroom coverage.
- Program Operations, Budget and Purchasing: Manage multiple department accounts and maintain P‑Card/ProCard access to procure a diverse set of tools, equipment, and materials from local hardware stores and specialized makerspace vendors. Responsible for placing and tracking orders, maintaining vendor accounts, and coordinating with service providers to ensure the program is fully equipped. Additionally, oversee inventory tracking, shipment reception, and storeroom organization to streamline resource access and minimize instructional downtime.
- Student Real-World Experiences: Sponsor and coordinate clubs and open lab times, providing direct support for the Engineering Club, CAD, WISE, Pioneer STEM Maker, and Wings clubs. Lead the planning and execution of semester field trips designed to provide students with engaging, real-world engineering experiences. This includes seeking out new opportunities, managing all logistics, such as date coordination, bus reservations, and health/permission forms, and handling all internal and external communications. The coordinator often serves as a chaperone alongside the classroom teacher to facilitate these experiential learning opportunities.
- Planning and Coordinating Engineering Nights: Back to School Night set-up and presentations; Open Enrollment Night set-up and presentations; IB/Engineering Night set-up and presentations; Awards Night presentation.
- Lab Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of a diverse fleet of specialized equipment—including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, robots, and AV systems—utilizing vendor partnerships and operating manuals to extend equipment life. This role includes leading the Engineering Tech Team and coordinating all facilities work orders while maintaining a resolution log to track repairs. Additionally, ensure the engineering wing remains a safe, organized, and welcoming environment through proactive storage management and workspace oversight.
- Administrative and Systems Management: Maintain comprehensive program records, including calendars, PLC documentation, and detailed inventory spreadsheets to ensure operational efficiency. This role involves researching and writing grants to secure supplemental program funding and managing the end-to-end administration for the BVSD Science Fair, which includes facilitating registration, paperwork approval, and mentor coordination for over 30 participating students. Additionally, provide administrative oversight for the Technology Student Association (TSA) by managing required documentation and supervising club meetings.
- Student Support and Advocacy: Provide dedicated support to students by authoring personalized letters of recommendation and managing their submission through Naviance. Collaborate closely with the counseling department to align student needs with course planning and long-term academic goals. This position serves as a key advocate for students, helping them navigate complex registration processes and ensuring they have the necessary resources and mentorship to succeed in both classroom and extracurricular engineering pursuits.
- Departmental Leadership and Environment: Lead the engineering department by planning and facilitating regular meetings and professional learning opportunities to foster a collaborative culture. Responsible for maintaining and improving the engineering wing to ensure it remains a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for all students and staff. Through consistent leadership and proactive communication, ensure that the department’s physical space and instructional goals align with the school’s mission of innovation and excellence.
