HR Training and Onboarding Intern

MacLean-Fogg is seeking an HR Training & Onboarding Intern to support our Farmington Hills manufacturing facility during the summer. This role partners directly with our Training Coordinator to enhance the learning experience for new employees, primarily within production and operations.

This is a hands-on internship for a student seeking exposure to workforce development in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will help strengthen our onboarding, training, and preparation to ensure employees perform safely and effectively from day one.

You will actively support orientation sessions, improve training materials, and contribute to process improvements that directly impact frontline employees.

This is a summer-only internship.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will contribute to work such as:
  • Assisting with new employee orientation sessions
  • Supporting onboarding logistics, scheduling, and documentation
  • Observing production training sessions and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Updating and improving training materials, presentations, and visual job aids
  • Helping organize and streamline training records
  • Gathering feedback from new hires and supervisors on training effectiveness
  • Supporting tracking of required training completion
  • Assisting with engagement initiatives tied to early employee success
  • Contributing to continuous improvement efforts within the training process
  • This role blends people interaction, organization, and operational learning.

Skills/Competencies

  • Comfort interacting with production employees and supervisors
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured environment
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools
  • Curiosity about how training impacts safety, quality, and performance
  • Willingness to spend time on the production floor

You should be comfortable in a manufacturing setting and motivated to support frontline employees.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, Education, Organizational Development, or related field
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Availability to work on-site at our Farmington Hills manufacturing facility during the summer

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Interest in training, talent development, or workforce development
  • Prior experience in a customer service, leadership, or team-based role
  • Exposure to training design, instructional materials, or facilitation
  • Interest in manufacturing or industrial operations

This internship provides direct exposure to how onboarding and training influence safety, retention, and performance in a manufacturing environment. It offers practical experience supporting the employees who drive daily operations.
