Description and Expectations of the Position

Gray Road Christian School (GRCS) seeks an experienced, mission-driven Head of School with a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a clear testimony of faith, and a passion for nurturing students spiritually, academically, and socially. The candidate will wholeheartedly embrace the school’s theological convictions and be an active member of Gray Road Baptist Church (GRBC).

This seasoned, visionary leader will bring proven experience in Christian education or ministry leadership and demonstrate strength in building a healthy school culture, developing faculty and staff, and cultivating strong relationships with families, donors, and the broader community. Serving as the school’s chief executive officer, the Head of School will report to the Elders of GRBC and oversee daily operations, strategic planning, and faithful execution of the school’s mission.

As GRCS advances in accreditation, the Head of School will strengthen the school’s spiritual, academic, and operational foundations by overseeing curriculum, enrollment growth, and financial stewardship, while ensuring alignment with a biblical worldview. This role calls for both a skilled administrator and a spiritual shepherd who unites the community and prepares students to live for Christ in all areas of life.

Core Responsibilities

  • Spiritual & Cultural Leadership
  • Provide spiritual leadership by modeling a Christ-centered life and cultivating a healthy, mission-aligned, biblically rooted school culture.
    • Serve as chief executive officer, reporting to GRBC elders and advising the School Board. 
    • Implement Board policies, collaborate on vision and long-range planning, and serve as an ex-officio member of all Board committees serving as a non-voting member of the School Board.
    • Supervise and evaluate administrative staff
    • Systematize office and financial workflows
    • Oversee daily operations including academics, personnel, finances, facilities, enrollment, and development
    • Recruit and retain mission-aligned faculty and staff.
    • Oversee curriculum and instructional programs to ensure academic rigor and biblical integration.
    • Ensure student needs are met with grace and accountability.
    • Lead and manage all aspects of school accreditation, including compliance, reporting, self-studies, site visits, and continuous improvement, progressing from foundational accreditation to full accreditation by 2028.
    • Lead fundraising, marketing, and public relations efforts.
    • Develop and oversee the operating budget.
    • Cultivate strategic partnerships with donors and community stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with state, local, and accreditation requirements.
    • Manage business operations, facilities, safety, enrollment strategy, technology systems, vendors, and major projects.
    • Align operational systems between church and school where appropriate.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the elders of Gray Road Baptist Church
  • Works closely with: Church Elders, School Board, Finance Committees, Secretarial and Financial Staff

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in education administration
  • 10+ years of administrative or operational leadership in elementary education
  • Experience with boards, governance structures, or nonprofit leadership teams

Skills

  • Strong governance and meeting facilitation skills
  • High-level organizational and documentation skills
  • Financial literacy with ability to interpret budgets and reports
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation

  • Full-time, exempt
  • Salary commensurate with experience
