Accounting Intern
The Lighthouse of Houston is a non-profit organization and is currently hiring an Accounting Intern for its Finance and Accounting Department.
The Accounting Intern will provide accounting and audit support to the Accounting/Finance Department of a long-standing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the blind and low-vision community.. This internship offers hands-on, real-world accounting experience in a mission-driven environment.. The intern will work closely with the Controller, Chief Financial Officer, and accounting staff, and all work will be reviewed to ensure learning, accuracy, and compliance.

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and/or Controller.

Qualifications
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with The Lighthouse of Houston’s core values and mission.
- Assist with maintaining and organizing the chart of accounts
- Enter and code transactions into the general ledger
- Review, organize, and clean up historical audit schedules
- Assist in preparing schedules and documentation for upcoming audits
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Assist with filing, documentation, and reconciliation support
- Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned
Learning Opportunities:
- Hands-on experience with nonprofit accounting and compliance
- Exposure to general ledger accounting and audit preparation
- Direct mentorship from the CFO and accounting team
- Understanding how accounting supports mission-driven organizations
- Professional experience with real financial deliverables
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled college or university student in junior or senior year
- Major in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in financial or intermediate accounting
- Interest in nonprofit accounting or public service
