Special Education Coordinator - Middle School (210 Day Position)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A degree from an accredited college or university
  2. Certification in Special Education required, Special Education Administrator certification preferred
  3. Minimum of five years teaching experience


REPORTS TO:           Director of Student Services

SUPERVISES:           Special Education Staff in collaboration with building administrators

COLLABORATES
WITH:                         Building Administrators and Special Education staff

JOB GOAL:                To assure that all students identified as having an educational disability receive a free and appropriate public education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversees the implementation of Special Education services in accordance with the law and current New Hampshire rules.
  2. Supports staff, administration, students, and parents as the leader with expertise in providing quality educational support for students with special needs.
  3. Assists the Director of Student Services with developing the district's special education budgetwhen it comes to needs at the elementary level.
  4. Participates in District Student Services Leadership meetings.
  5. Serves as the School District representative at building student services team meetings (for new referrals, student monitoring, re-evaluation discussions, etc.)
  6. Provides leadership and expertise in facilitating positive instructional outcomes for students.
  7. Services as liaison/LEA representative with outside agencies.
  8. Assists in facilitating student transitions.
  9. Collaborates with the Student Services Director in the development and implementation of extended school year programs.
  10. Supervises special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in cooperation with building administration.
  11. Evaluates special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in consultation with appropriate building/district staff.
  12. Oversees distribution of special education caseloads and deployment of support staff in conjunction with building administration.
  13. Participates in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of new special education staff.
  14. Monitors the effectiveness of the building process from pre-referral to placement and service delivery.
  15. Supervises IEP teams to ensure each student is provided with the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  16. Follows protocol for responding to new referrals and the development of evaluation questions.
  17. Supervises building compliance with NHSEIS, re-evaluation guidelines, and placement team meetings.
  18. Performs other duties as directed by the Director of Student Services.
