Elementary School Principal

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • NH Principal Certification
  • Master's Degree in Leadership preferred
  • Proven track record of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, lead, and communicate effectively to motivate a diverse staff.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to establish and maintain highly positive parent and community relations.
  • A strong professional commitment to staying current with educational developments and pioneering new, effective programs.

 
REPORTS TO:           Superintendent of Schools
 
CONFERS WITH:      Assistant Superintendents, Central Office Staff, Specialists, and other Elementary Principals
 
SUPERVISES:            Teachers, Nurse, Guidance Counselor and Specialists, Clerks, Custodians, Cafeteria Personnel, Special Education Assistants, and other staff as needed
  
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Educational Leadership & Curriculum Development

  • Oversee the implementation of a rigorous, engaging curriculum in collaboration with teachers and district leadership.
  • Empower and encourage teachers to take an active role in shaping educational programs.
  • Serve as an active voice on the district's curriculum cabinet, contributing to district-wide educational strategies.

School Culture & Student Success

  • Cultivate a school atmosphere that is deeply conducive to learning and student well-being.
  • Observe, evaluate, and mentor teachers to ensure the highest standards of classroom instruction and goal attainment.
  • Guide student behavior and resolve disciplinary matters with a focus on maintaining a safe, positive school culture.
  • Coordinate and support vital specialist programs, e.g.,  including reading support, guidance, student services, and music.1

Team Building & Personnel Management

  • Lead the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of top-tier educational professionals.
  • Orient new staff members in cooperation with central office staff and district leadership.
  • Provide ongoing professional development and individual improvement plans based on evaluation of teacher performance.
  • Foster open communication by consulting with teachers on performance, resolving grievances, and taking constructive action when necessary.
  • Assign grade-level and supervisory duties thoughtfully to maximize staff strengths.

Operations & Financial Management

  • Oversee the daily functional operations of the school, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming facility (collaborating with custodial, cafeteria, and nursing staff).
  • Collaborate with staff to assess educational needs and consolidate budgetary requests.
  • Administer the annual school budget transparently and responsibly, ensuring all expenditures align with our educational priorities.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Build strong, proactive relationships with parents through open communication and collaborative conferences.
  • Act as the face of the school, engaging in formal and informal contacts with community organizations.
  • Partner closely with parent-teacher organizations (e.g., PTA/PTO) to plan programs and host activities that build support for the school's mission.
  • Effectively communicate school operations and achievements to the school board and the broader public.

Performs other administrative duties and functions assigned by the Superintendent.
