Recreation Center Operations Manager

This position is to start in Fall 2026. Training hours will be available for Spring and Summer 2026.

 

Essential Duties

  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all Rec Center operations and equipment  
  • Interview, hire, train, and develop all Rec Center Staff  
  • Train and test on maintenance of Brunswick A2 Pinsetters. Model repairs for incoming Recreation Attendants, or work with other Recreation Attendants to complete trainings 
  • Responsible for maintaining the safe working order of all Rec Center machines and equipment  
  • Facilitate cash training, handling, and cash drawer management  
  • Create and adjust weekly staffing schedule to meet operational needs  
  • Plan and develop monthly/bi-monthly staff meetings  
  • Regularly communicate and attend to staff needs  
  • Complete staff evaluations at the end of each semester  
  • Complete bi-weekly surveillance of staff payroll

 

Qualifications

  • Have earned and maintain a minimum of a 2.25 cumulative GPA and 2.25 semester GPA during employment  
  • A consistently patient and engaged professional attitude when interaction with student staff, professional staff, third-party vendors, the bowling instructor, the bowling mechanic, and patrons  
  • The possession of leadership potential, evidenced by previous leadership experiences and references  
  • The possession of exemplary verbal and written communication skills; comfort and skill when speaking in public or facilitating large groups  
  • The possession of exemplary organizational skills; the ability to handle myriad tasks and responsibilities simultaneously; the ability to use different methods of organization to address tasks based on time sensitivity  
  • A strong sense of discernment; willingness to accept responsibility and make sound judgement calls in a dynamic environment  
  • Maturity – including sound judgment, flexibility, and willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative  
  • The possession of exemplary interpersonal skills; the ability to work intuitively and empathetically with others based upon their need, ability, and situation  
  • The ability to take initiative, generate projects, and work autonomously  
  • An eagerness to learn and develop and contribute new ideas

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically attend work meetings and events.
  • Must be able to fix bowling breakdowns. This includes climbing in and fixing bowling machines, lifting up to 15 pound bowling balls, etc.

  • The Rec Center Operations manager is a student that acts as a liaison between professional staff, students, and patrons. They must effectively communicate patron requests and delegate tasks to staff members as deemed necessary.
  • The Rec Center Operations manager must maintain a level of professionalism as an example for other Rec Center staff
  • The Rec Center Operations manager acts as the first problem-solver for the Rec Center, and must think critically to solve problems both individually and with other staff members.
