Middle School History Teacher (AY26-27)

Summary Description:

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a full-time Middle School History teacher.  The BB&N Middle School consists of Grades 7 and 8.  We are seeking a knowledgeable History teacher to teach three classes across both grades, who values student voice and agency, utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches, and is excited to work as part of a team in curriculum development.  Other faculty member responsibilities encompass advising in our co-curricular program, as well as community, athletic/coaching, and student life activities and program needs. 

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Planning and developing an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
  • Preparing materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
  • Supervising the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips, and discussing academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
  • Monitoring students' progress throughout the year and evaluating preparedness.
  • Communicating progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus Director.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Enforcing safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintaining required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Monitoring halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.
  • Participating in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
  • Maintaining knowledge of research, developments, and best practices.
  • Performing related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations, including athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have a degree in History or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is required. While a Master’s Degree in history and at least four years of experience teaching history at the middle school level is preferred, we understand that not every great teacher’s path to teaching is a straight line.

In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Possess a passion for identifying, evaluating, and using trustworthy historical sources and evidence, guiding students to distinguish between credible information and bias.
  • Work effectively with a diverse group of people, including students, families, faculty, and staff.
  • Thrive as part of a collaborative team of colleagues within the History Department and with teachers in other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate dedication to supporting adolescent growth and development and promoting a growth mindset.


Salary: $69,500.00 - $115,754.00

BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistent compensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands (0-30 years). 

Compensation for eligible full-time and part-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
