St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Position Overview and Responsibilities

St. John’s Prep seeks a biology and environmental science teacher for grades 9 through 12 for the 2026-2027 school year who demonstrates a strong love of science and a commitment to inspiring students. The Science Department offers a program that allows students “to participate directly in the process of science by learning to frame scientific questions, analyze data, and discuss and interpret results. Structured to encourage growth, the courses meet students where they are, providing them the space and structure to mature academically and find their own meaning in scientific discovery.  Experiences as emerging scientists challenge students to become responsible, active, and positive voices. The program provides students with the tools to creatively and intelligently shape a healthier and more sustainable world.” (St. John’s Prep website). Science teachers at St. John’s Preparatory School teach five (5) classes. Prospective candidates should have the competency and passion to engage every student in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Candidates should also have a desire to become an active and collegial member of an adult community of learners. We seek candidates who are open to and willing to embrace a student-centered digital learning model that incorporates education technology tools, open education resources, and varied instructional strategies.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching Science, specifically Biology and Environmental Science at the high school level.
  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Life Sciences or related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diversity of learning styles and learners.


 

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education, with an expected range of $58,000-$72,000
