Public Health Nurse

Salary: $68,538 - $79,185 with excellent benefits as described below 

Benefits: Generous vacation and sick time allowance, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility and the option to enroll in the St. Lawrence County’s health insurance or opt out of the insurance and receive a buyout in the amount of $2,000 for single coverage or $4,000 for family. 

Duties of the Position: This is a professional nursing position involving coordinating and executing Public Health programs designed to prevent disease and improve the health of individuals, families, specific populations, high risk groups, and/or communities. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Preventive Services with wide leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment. The incumbent does related work as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university and licensure and current registration to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State; 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

1. Complete 15 credit hours of continuing education in public health related topics approved by the New York State Department of Health must be within the first year of employment in the title; and 

2. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s license or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job. 

In order to be permanently appointed for this position, you must be appointed from a civil service exam list. This exam is a Training and Experience Exam. You will not be required to sit for a written exam. You will be scored based on an evaluation of your education and experience as shown on your resume/application.
