Science and Water Quality Management Intern

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) is seeking 2 intern candidates to support its Science and Water Quality Management mission. One part-time to full-time paid positions that provide excellent hands-on experience and on-the-job training with senior staff across a variety of environmental science and water quality management skills. The DRBC is additionally seeking one 1-year-round intern. Minimum pay is $16.00/hour, possibly more with experience.

 

Job Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Environmental sample collection in the field anywhere within the Delaware River Basin
  • Water quality monitoring (including potential overnight stays for fieldwork)
  • Water quality meter calibration
  • Field preparation and sample processing
  • Chain-of-custody procedures and sample maintenance
  • Data review, QA/QC, and assessment

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a college student or recent graduate in a science or engineering curriculum related to an environmental or water resources field
  • Must have flexible availability
  • Must have driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation for office and field
  • Must have computer at home with internet for some remote work as needed
  • Must be capable of performing manual work in challenging field environments, including:
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
    • Must be able to swim
    • Must be comfortable in and around water
  • Boat operator experience or certification is a plus
  • Must have experience in Excel; data analysis using R or Python is a plus
