Instructional Fellow

eCLOSE Institute 2026 Instructional Fellowship

eCLOSE Institute Fellowship Mission: "To make medically relevant scientific discoveries using an educational platform that embraces equality and empowers participants to contribute ideas, life experience, and experimental data to improve disease treatment."

Our vision is to transform the current biomedical workforce to include the life experiences of scientists from every racial, ethnic, and economic background. Our participants are primarily students marginalized from research, preventing intentional efforts to address health disparities that impact underserved communities. Through professional research training, we provide students with confidence, technical skills, research literacy, and networks to ensure their success in STEM and employability in biomedical careers.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • 8 Week Fellowship Commitment
  • 2 Paid Flex Days
    • Weeks: July 8th-10th, 13th-17th, and 20th-24th are not applicable for flex days
  • June 6th to August 7th (select either June 6th- 12th OR June 29th to July 2nd)
  • No session hours from July 3rd to July 4th
  • Full-Time: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, M-F

eCLOSE Institute Fellows will engage students in biomedical research programs that link diet to diseases like cancer, diabetes, and mental health. The eCLOSE Institute has developed programs to examine these connections through developmental, behavioral, and biochemical assays and sports nutrition. 

Programs may be on-site in the eCLOSE lab, at a local host institution, or via Zoom. All instructional time will be in tandem with a co-instructor, and training for the various programs will be provided as part of the paid Fellowship time. During non-instructional hours, fellows will participate in module creation, curriculum design, and other program-related activities. Fellows will be assigned to mentors for training, check-ins, and professional development.

This Fellowship is designed for participants from various educational and social backgrounds. eCLOSE welcomes diverse points of view and encourages outside-of-the-box problem-solving. Typical candidates are undergraduate, graduate, and post-doc students in public health, science education, or biological/chemical science majors.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Some college (minimum) and instructor equivalent preferred (camp counselor, dance school, sports coach, teaching assistant, etc.).
  • Background in life science or chemistry, science or STEM education.
  • Some wet laboratory experience is preferred, but eCLOSE will train.
  • Must be available for the entire duration of the Fellowship
  • Interest in the intersection of science education and biomedical research.
  • Belief that every student is a scientist with an idea.
  • Have or be able to obtain background clearances before the start of the Fellowship:

1.    Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance

2.    Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check

3.    Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)

Preferred Skills:

  • Able to utilize Google Suite during instruction
  • Able to facilitate instruction via Zoom (high energy)
  • Must be a team player
    • Able to utilize Slack
  • Should be self-directed within the task outlines.
  • Task-oriented - completes goals on time.

Additional:

  • eCLOSE facilitates in-person programming (Wyncote, PA), virtual hybrid (Zoom), and at host sites (e.g., Esperanza College – Philadelphia, PA)
  •  Instruction and other projects via Zoom will require a reliable WiFi connection.
  •  eCLOSE works with students from pre-K through Undergrad, with most participants ranging from 6th to 11th grades.

Pay:

$5500 Stipend paid bi-monthly with completion of hours.
