Summer Camp Staff - Ideal for Students Pursuing Careers in Medicine and Healthcare (2026)

March 12 UPDATE, we have very few FEMALE cabin staff positions left, so if you are interested, we encourage you to apply ASAP.  We are still looking for staff in these positions:  MALE cabin staff, lifeguards, and equestrian staff.  Never been a lifeguard before?  It's okay!  If you're a strong swimmer, we can pay for you to get lifeguard certified.  Know a man who might be interested?  Please pass along the word about Camp Boggy Creek.

“I think our future physicians and other healthcare professions should know that Camp will transform that way that they carry themselves professionally and set them up for success in their chosen career.”

-Bryan Greenfield, MD

Nova Southeastern University College of Allopathic Medicine, Class of 2025

Summer Camp Staff 2017-2019

A summer position at Camp Boggy Creek, a not-for-profit medical camp that serves children with serious illnesses, offers hands-on experience that is directly relevant to a future career in medicine. No prior medical experience is required—we provide comprehensive training. If you do have medical experience, it is valued and will be an asset in this role.

All staff share responsibility for camper safety, including medical care. Summer staff serve as first responders to camper health needs and work closely with our onsite nurses by monitoring campers’ health, providing updates, and supporting ongoing care. Responsibilities include monitoring blood sugar levels, responding to seizures, transporting campers to the medical facility, assisting with mobility devices such as walkers and wheelchairs, and, when needed, supporting nurses with direct care tasks.

Camp Boggy Creek serves children with a wide range of medical conditions, including asthma, cancer, cerebral palsy, craniofacial differences, diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, immune deficiencies, gastrointestinal and kidney disorders, sickle cell disease, spina bifida, and transplant recipients. Our campers also may have secondary diagnoses such as neurological and developmental differences, including ADHD, autism, and Down syndrome.

Because of the diverse population we serve, staff gain meaningful, firsthand experience supporting and engaging with children of varying medical and developmental needs. This role offers valuable insight into the daily lives, strength, and resilience of these campers.

Medical professionals work and volunteer at camp, providing staff with opportunities to learn from and connect with individuals across the healthcare field.

“Seeing how children who live with serious illnesses approach day-to-day life is eye-opening and awe-inspiring. Their unique challenges and the tools they use to overcome them are things that aren’t often taught inside a classroom, and even more powerful is just how similar they are to other kids that don’t have complex medical challenges. These lessons are just as applicable to adolescent, adult, and elderly patient experiences, and will empower future healthcare providers in ways that can’t be replicated anywhere else.”

Summer Camp Staff 2024

“Before, I was naturally shy when talking to strangers, but camp taught me how to break the ice easily, laugh with patients, and listen with empathy. Because of camp, I am comfortable meeting and connecting with patients in a more friendly, natural, and charismatic way. This makes all the difference in medicine.”

-Jesus Olivera, MD

Indiana University School of Medicine, Class of 2026

Summer Camp Staff 2016-2017, 2022-2023

“There’s no measurable value I can place on my time at Camp Boggy Creek, whether as a volunteer or staff member. Those summers shaped both the person and provider I am today. You learn to be the human behind the clinician and to see the person behind the patient. The communication and empathy skills you develop working with campers ages 7–16 apply to every patient you’ll ever treat. If you’re even considering it, say yes.”
