SolidWorks PDM Administrator

SolidWorks PDM Administrator 

Position Summary

The SolidWorks PDM Administrator serves as the engineering owner of the Product Data Management environment, ensuring robust configuration control, design integrity, and lifecycle governance of all CAD data. This role directly supports mechanical and cross-functional engineering teams by optimizing workflows.

Core Responsibilities

Engineering Data Governance & Configuration Control

  • Own and administer the SolidWorks PDM environment as the system of record for engineering design data
  • Enforce revision control, part numbering schemes, and product structure integrity
  • Ensure compliance with engineering change management processes (ECO/ECN)
  • Drive best practices in file structure, referencing, and CAD modeling standards
  • Ensure clean handoff of engineering data to ERP, PLM, and production systems

System Administration & Technical Infrastructure

  • Install, configure, and maintain PDM vaults and databases
  • Manage user roles aligned to engineering responsibilities
  • Oversee vault upgrades, replication, backups, and disaster recovery coordination
  • Support SQL database maintenance and performance monitoring
  • Develop and maintain PDM add-ins, scripts, and API-based automations where applicable

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of SolidWorks PDM administration experience
  • Practical understanding of CAD assemblies, references, configurations, and design intent
  • Strong knowledge of engineering change control and product lifecycle management
  • Experience in a manufacturing or product development environment
  • SolidWorks PDM Professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Windows Server, SQL Server, and networked engineering systems
  • SolidWorks or PDM certifications (CSWA, CSWP, PDM Certified Administrator)
  • Experience integrating engineering data with ERP or PLM systems
  • Knowledge of scripting, API development, or automation tools
  • Background in configuration management or regulated manufacturing environments
