Laboratory Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Laboratory Technician – Reservoir supports reservoir engineering and fluid analysis by conducting laboratory tests on oil, gas, and water samples. This role ensures accurate data collection and analysis to optimize reservoir performance and support production strategies. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

 

Work in accordance with company Health and Safety procedures to ensure laboratory operations are conducted in a safe manner. 

Check-in samples accurately and in a timely manner to the internal global data portal and assign each a unique identifier whilst accurately detailing sample description. 

Working as part of a small team ensure that the sample pre-treatment prior to Gas Chromatography (GC) or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is performed rapidly, accurately and to a high standard. 

Work according to the relevant laboratory quality standard to ensure analysis is performed in line with the most recent procedure, analytical method, or work instruction. 

To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.  

Consult with the Senior Analyst to ensure client requirements are understood and met in full and to required timescale. 

To perform preventative maintenance checks on non chromatography-based laboratory equipment to ensure continuity of analytical service.                                                  

SCOPE 

Working closely with other Analysts and Senior Analysts, under instruction from the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager, the laboratory technician will form an important part of a team which is responsible for producing high quality reservoir tracer analytical data and reporting to agreed client timescales. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE  

(TECHNICAL/ PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS COMPETENCY) 

 

Working knowledge of wet chemistry principles 

Knowledge of GCMS or HPLC an advantage 

Broad general background knowledge of a range of Analytical Chemistry techniques. 

Safety conscious attitude 

Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook)
