Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Follow appropriate workflows and procedures for the payroll department.
- Collect, audit and analyze payroll and timesheet data.
- Handles high volume of correspondence by telephone, email and fax while maintaining both composure under stress and keeping to the utmost of professional standards.
- Process payroll for 500+ employees and 100+ clients in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and company guidelines. The average client size may be between 25 and 50 employees.
- Research and resolve all payroll discrepancies in a timely and accurate manner.
- Contact clients to obtain necessary information, build relationships and resolve issues.
- Train clients on all Columbia EDP policies, processes and timelines.
- Update and maintain federal and state W4 information and employee direct deposit information.
- Process severance, bonuses, employee benefits and various deductions.
- Enter new hires into timekeeping and import timekeeping reports into payroll.
- Enter multiple work comp codes per payroll as necessary to job requirements.
- Enter shift differential pay as needed to process payrolls.
- Develop knowledge of Time Off Accrual is set up in payroll platforms.
- Ensure all Time Off Accrual is calculating correctly according to company policies and make adjustments as necessary.
- Process and review all garnishments, levies and child support orders including initial review of the notice, verification of the proper garnishment of wages and entry into payroll processing system.
- Understand differences between types of pensions and understand pension calculations.
- Develop, adjust, and generate ad hoc payroll reports, as needed or requested.
- Participate in year-end payroll activities.
- Develop knowledge of features and functionality of the payroll processing system
- Ensure compliance with standard internal control procedures.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations, etc.
- Enhance department and organization by accepting ownership for re-engineering processes, accomplishing new and different requests, and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Perform such other duties, appropriate to the role, as may be required from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
· Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) required within one year or performance FPC level work.
· A high school diploma or equivalent
· A minimum of 2 to 5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-client, multi-state, and multi-system production environment
· General understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws required
· MS Office and data entry experience preferred
· Proven experience in customer service and problem resolution
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills

Pay: $20.36 - $25.14 per hour
