LaGrange Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Physical Education teacher and coach to lead our Lower and Middle School PE program for the 2026-2027 academic year. This position combines a passion for fitness and child development with a strong commitment to character-building, sportsmanship, and whole-child education.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Duties:
- Design and deliver engaging Physical Education lessons for students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
- Teach fundamental motor skills, fitness concepts, and healthy habits in age-appropriate ways.
- Differentiate instruction to meet varying ability levels, using multi-modal strategies.
- Foster a love of movement, teamwork, and personal goal-setting.
- Use assessment tools to track and communicate student progress.
- Maintain classroom structure and behavior expectations that promote a positive, respectful environment.
Coaching & Athletics:
- Coach multiple sports at the middle school level, with opportunities to assist in Upper school athletics.
- Promote teamwork, character, and a growth mindset on and off the field.
- Prepare students for competition and personal improvement through safe, structured practices.
- Transport students to and from events as needed.
- Lead or support extracurricular activities for additional stipends.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Partner with faculty, staff, and families to support each child’s development.
- Maintain regular parent communication through conferences, email, and phone.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative, student-centered faculty culture.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or experience in a related field.
- A genuine passion for working with children and a proven record of success in classroom instruction or coaching.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Experience coaching multiple sports and working with both competitive and developmental athletes.
- Familiarity with exercise science, youth fitness, and athletic recovery best practices.
